10/05/2011 ACCOLADES AND APPOINTMENTS FOR THE SPA AT THE OYSTER BOX
The Spa at The Oyster Box has announced the appointment of Jackie Avis, as the new Spa Manager. Originally from the Eastern Cape, Jackie has been working in the spa industry for the past 10 years in locations from Egypt to Peru. Most recently she worked as a therapist on luxury ships in the Caribbean and then in the Indian Ocean Islands, where she continued her studies in the field of eastern and western modalities. Jackie was Spa Manager at an exotic spa resort on Kuredu Island in the Maldives for the Duniye Spa Group, as well as Training Manager for the Group, who operate spas in the Maldives and Seychelles.
Jackie’s appointment comes in the same month as The Spa, one of the leading hotel spas in South Africa, was named Country Winner in the category ‘Best Luxury Wellness Spa’ in The World Luxury Spa Awards™ for 2011. According to organisers, ‘The international awards celebrate unsurpassed service excellence and put the spotlight on spas that represent the finest standards, attracting the attention of global spa-goers and industry experts’. Open to luxury spas in eight categories, the independent judging process was based on spa guest votes and the feedback and votes from a selected global panel of spa industry professionals. According to organisers, the calibre of entries for 2011 was ‘outstanding and as such the bar was set high’.
The luxury spa hotel, The Oyster Box in Umhlanga Rocks (KwaZulu-Natal) is part of the family-run Red Carnation Hotel Collection. In South Africa, sister properties include Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Wellness Retreat in the Cederberg, and the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa in Cape Town and other four and five-star boutique hotels in London, Dorset, Guernsey, Geneva, and Palm Beach.
