03/06/2011 DURBAN’S OYSTER BOX GARNERS SLEW OF AWARDS

As far as awards and accolades go, The Oyster Box has had a cracking good start to the year, garnering a total of three prestigious local and international hospitality awards, in the first quarter alone. The range of awards covers the full spectrum of the hotel’s luxury offering from accommodation, to cuisine, facilities and The Spa.

“We are proud of the broad range and the calibre of recognition we have received through the awards we have won this year,” says Wayne Coetzer. “I have to give kudos to the staff for the part they play in our winning. Without them and their ongoing commitment to service excellence we could not keep winning these accolades.”

Internationally, the Oyster Box was the runner-up in the ‘Hotel’ category of the FIABCI Prix d 'Excellence Awards 2011 held recently in Cypress. This is the first time the Oyster Box entered the prestigious competition. With votes from independent global spa-goers and industry experts, The Spa at the Oyster Box, one of the leading hotel spas in South Africa, was named Country Winner, in the category ‘Best Luxury Wellness Spa’, in The World Luxury Spa Awards™ for 2011.

On the domestic front, the Oyster Box was nominated as a Gold Achiever in the 2011 AA Travel Guides and American Express® Accommodation Awards Programme. The nomination is based on extensive research carried out with the travel trade in South Africa and the UK. In honour of cutting-edge architectural and interior design, IE Magazine honours ‘The Best of The Best’ every two years. This year recognising the property’s stylish décor and elegance, the Oyster Box walked off with the ‘The Best of The Best’ gong in the Boutique Hotels category.

The luxury spa hotel, the Oyster Box in Umhlanga Rocks (KwaZulu-Natal) is part of the family-run Red Carnation Hotel Collection. In South Africa, sister properties include Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Wellness Retreat in the Cederberg, and the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa in Cape Town and other four and five-star boutique hotels in London, Dorset, Guernsey, Geneva, and Palm Beach.
