‘A Life In Food’ is President and founder of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, Beatrice Tollman’s food memoir. The cookbook is a celebration of recipes that have either been passed down in the family or discovered while travelling, and all have been perfected from her own personal experience and expertise in the kitchen.
The inspiration behind the endearing hospitality the Red Carnation hotels are famous for, is driven by Beatrice Tollman herself. Many of the signature dishes, which guests come back for time and again, are those that she has collected, refined and perfected, and many of which she has personally taught to the chefs on every property. Each dish is presented with a fascinating story of how the recipe came into being.
All the menus in the book are perfect for the enthusiastic amateur cook - relatively quick and simple to prepare, with ingredients that are easily sourced.
Her book, her recipes, and her hotels, are all inspired by the same thing - a deep, genuine and heartfelt desire to please and satisfy, and ensure whatever she does, she does it with all her heart.
‘A Life in Food’ is available at all Red Carnation Hotels and by mail order and all the proceeds go to Bea Tollman's favourite charities around the world.
A Life in Food
KwaZulu-Natal is a treasure chest of amazing produce. Sourcing fresh produce locally in an ethical way, for use in our kitchens is top priority for Executive Chef, Kevin Joseph. The closer to home the food is produced, the fresher it is, the less packaging is involved, the more sustainable it is for the producer - and the better it is for our guests.
Recognising the amazing artisan food produced in our province, the Oyster Box prefers to source from local specialist producers, who understand intimately, the raw materials with which they work. These are our KZN Food Heroes!
By supporting and producing the local suppliers, right on our doorstep, we are helping to promote growth, create jobs and sustain the environment and the industry. With every business we impact, a community is inspired.
