 Ballito Pro Surfing Competitionl

As the temperatures cool, KwaZulu Natal’s sporting events heat up and the Ballito Pro surfing competition is one of the athletic highlights of the winter season. Taking place over 12 days from 21st June –1st July 2018, the event combines world-class surfing with a lively festival. The finest male, female and junior surfers all have a chance to compete whilst spectators can also enjoy entertainment in the form of live music performances, shopping and beach football. 

 Curry and Comedy

There are few better ways to warm up and lift the spirits on a cold day than a good Durban curry and comedy. A regular event of the calendar, treat yourself to an evening sampling the Oyster Box’s famous Curry Menu whilst enjoying plenty of laughs courtesy of SA’ s most talented comedians. Created by the hotel’s supremely talented Executive Chef Kevin Joseph, the curry dishes are accompanied by an impressive array of freshly made condiments and sides.

 Comrades Marathon

Holding the title of the world’s oldest and largest ultramarathon, the Comrades Marathon is a highly anticipated annual event in KwaZulu-Natal. The race between Pietermaritzburg and Durban, covering a gruelling 89 km, takes place over 12 hours. Position yourself as close to the finish line as possible during the afternoon and you’ll have a chance to soak up the electric atmosphere of these internationally renowned sporting occasion.

 Vodacom Durban July

 A chance to dress up and people watch, the Vodacom Durban July horse races attracts a combination of both serious punters and the country’s most glamorous and fashion forward. On the first Saturday in July, the cream of South African society descends on Durban’s Greyville Racecourse to watch the region’s best thoroughbreds compete in a series of races scheduled throughout the day. Fashion is arguably as important as the racing, thanks to the Raceday Fashion Awards, which showcase the most striking looks at the event, with racegoers awarded titles such as ‘Most Striking Couple’ and ‘Exceptional Raceday Hat or Fascinator.’  The Oyster Box’s long relationship with the Durban July continues today and the hotel remains the most popular place to stay and play for trainers, owners and punters, over this glitzy weekend.
